Baby Acne: What I Wish I Knew as a New Mum 🤍
When Isabella was born, I thought I was prepared for everything. But nothing prepared me for how much I would worry about every little change on her skin.
One of the first things we experienced was baby acne.
Those tiny red and white bumps appeared on her cheeks and, like most new mums, I immediately wondered: What is this? Is something wrong? Am I doing something wrong?
The truth is, baby acne is very common and usually clears up on its own.
I learnt that the best thing I could do was keep Isabella’s skincare routine simple and gentle. No picking, squeezing or scrubbing, and no constantly changing products trying to make it disappear.
Then came the dry skin and flaky patches on her forehead and scalp — another thing that had me reaching for Google! 😂
Baby skin changes so much during those first few months, and I’ve learnt that sometimes less really is more.
What helped us 🤍
• Keep bath and skincare products gentle.
• Moisturise dry areas when needed.
• Don’t pick or squeeze baby acne.
• Avoid overloading delicate skin with lots of products.
• If you’re worried about a rash or something doesn’t look right, ask your paediatrician or healthcare professional.
But the biggest thing I’ve learnt?
Don’t blame yourself.
I spent so much time wondering if I had caused something or used the wrong product. Sometimes, baby’s skin is simply adjusting and changing.
So if you’re sitting there staring at your baby’s cheeks and worrying about every little bump — you’re not alone, mama. I’ve been there too. 🤍
This is based on my personal experience with Isabella and isn’t a substitute for medical advice.
